Our favorites

Île d'Aix (accessible by boat from Fouras or Rochefort) — Fouras: approximately 40 km / 45 min drive, then 20 min ferry crossing. The only car-free island in the region, steeped in Napoleonic history (Napoleon spent his last days on French soil there), best explored by bike or on foot.

Île Madame (via Port-des-Barques) — approximately 40 km / 45 min. The smallest of the islands of Charente-Maritime, accessible at low tide on foot via the Passe aux Bœufs, with a 360° panorama of Fort Boyard, Île d'Aix and Île d'Oléron; a true moment of preserved nature.

The Crazannes quarries — approximately 12 km / 15 min (very close to Geay). An unusual site, part of the "Nature Escapes" network, these are former stone quarries that provided the stone for the base of the Statue of Liberty.

Crazannes Castle — approximately 30 km / 35 min. The castle of Puss in Boots, former stop on the Way of St. James, received King Francis I in 1569; an avenue of lime trees leads to the terrace of this beautiful building erected at the end of the 14th century.

Mornac-sur-Seudre - approximately 40 km / 45 min. Former oyster port with flower-filled streets, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France

Talmont-sur-Gironde — approximately 45 km / 50 min. Fishing village perched on a cliff, with its Romanesque church of Sainte-Radegonde overlooking the Gironde estuary.

Saint-Sauvant — approximately 39 km / 35 min. Medieval village nestled in the Coran valley, renowned for its walks and preserved atmosphere.
